Summary

After moving everyone upstairs to avoid the basement, Simon, Baz, Penelope, Shepard, Jamie, and a now-freed Philippa (Pippa) confront the situation. Pippa, still struggling to speak, writes on the wall to explain how she ended up tied up. She reveals that Beth came to Smith-Richards afraid because all her spells had stopped working. Smith told Beth it was temporary, then cast “Put it out of your head” on her. Pippa witnessed this and was casting a “Freeze” spell and locked away. Smith told her her voice was gone forever.

Smith’s godfather, Evander Feverfew, wakes and accuses Pippa of lying—claiming she attacked Smith because she couldn’t have magic herself. Simon questions Jamie Salisbury, the first person Smith “cured.” Jamie admits his magic has already faded. Pippa insists that everyone Smith cured has stopped coming to meetings, suggesting the restoration is temporary.
