Summary

The chapter opens with Nick bringing Benji back to the bank after the events at the Vanguard. Nick gives Benji water, wipes his face, fits him with a new mask, and provides clean clothes. Benji is too exhausted to feel embarrassed about being in his sports bra and boxers, with open wounds across his stomach and thighs, but Nick doesn't linger on his body. The narration draws a parallel to Jesus and the leper—Nick helps by not turning away in disgust.

Once Benji is presentable, Nick boosts him through the bank window and settles him on the floor of the copy room. Benji is lightheaded and struggling to speak.
