Summary
The chapter opens with Sophie sprinting toward a large circle of friends gathered near the stegosaurus enclosure at Havenfield. Fitz, Biana, Dex, Marella, Wylie, Maruca, Tam, Linh, and Stina are all present, arguing loudly enough that their words blur together. Ro ends the chaos with a piercing whistle that sends the stegosauruses stampeding, then takes charge of the explanation.
Ro reveals that Keefe has run away to a random human city to hide from his mother, Lady Gisela, and that they have no way to locate him yet. She shares details but deliberately omits sensitive information about Rex being Talentless, Keefe's ability to sense manifestations, and the contents of Keefe's letter. To Sophie's surprise, the group accepts the news calmly. Fitz notes that Keefe knows survival tricks from stories about the Forbidden Cities, and Wylie points out that Keefe can light leap away if he gets into trouble.
