Summary
The chapter opens back in the classroom, where the Angel is taking inventory and preparing the space against potential looting. She sends Hot Sauce down the hallway to shut off the generator, instructing her to bleed it afterward. Nona wants to accompany Hot Sauce, but the Angel asks her to stay.
The Angel produces Nona's earlier drawing of a strange animal and asks how she drew it. Nona explains she made it up, describing the creature's features—its ears, nose, and hidden mouth—and noting that it once lived in a river before growing large when the climate cooled. The Angel reveals she has seen pictures of this animal before, from a special zoology unit she took at university on Miró, where she attended underground archaeology talks. She identifies it as a cradle creature.
