Summary

Lily is in a hospital exam room, being treated for wounds from Ryle’s attack—a cut on her head and a bite mark on her shoulder. The nurse, noting the nature of the injuries, assumes Atlas is the perpetrator and asks him to leave. Lily quickly clarifies that Atlas did not hurt her, and he stays. When the nurse gently asks if Lily was raped, tears come, but Lily says no—explaining that Ryle tried but stopped. The nurse offers a SANE exam, but Lily refuses.

A doctor enters to evaluate a possible concussion, then announces he will not order a CT scan because Lily is pregnant. The revelation hits Lily like a physical blow; she hears nothing else. After the medical staff departs, she breaks down completely, sobbing in Atlas’s arms. She wants to leave immediately, and despite his concern about monitoring, Atlas helps her out of the hospital.

He drives her to his house in Wellesley—a beautiful, manicured home he occupies alone. Lily registers the ocean-blue kitchen, a quiet callback to his boyhood mantra. She showers, dresses in clothes Atlas leaves on the bed, and silently cries into the night, grappling with the knowledge that she is now living the same cycle her mother endured.
