Tony Curran’s murder is solved during a quiet chess game. Bogdan Jankowski confesses to Elizabeth’s husband, Stephen, that he killed Curran. His motive: Curran ordered the murder of Bogdan’s friend Kazimir, a Ukrainian who witnessed Curran shoot a teenage drug dealer years earlier. Bogdan also murdered “Turkish Johnny” (Demir Gunduz’s son) at Newhaven ferry port, weighed down his body, and staged the disappearance to look like a flight to Cyprus. He planted a camera to set a false trail. Bogdan tells Stephen: “If they catch me, they catch me.” Elizabeth later hears the confession and cries quietly while making tea.

Ian Ventham’s murder is the work of John, the husband of Penny (the original Thursday Murder Club member now in a coma). John injects Ventham with a lethal overdose during the protest standoff at the Garden of Eternal Rest. He does so to protect Penny, who had earlier killed the man who murdered Annie Madeley decades ago. John walks off into the night to die himself, knowing he will be arrested or take his own life.
