Summary
The chapter opens with the narrator, who is using the alias Joshua Harris, striding across a Chicago parking lot to meet Kris Doll, a motorbike tour guide. Kris is waiting beside a large Gold Wing motorcycle. After a firm handshake and a quick appraisal of the narrator's attire, Kris produces liability paperwork. The narrator signs the disclaimers with a flourish, using the false name, and they set off on a tour of the city.
The ride takes them down the Magnificent Mile, past skyscrapers and along the Chicago River.
