Summary

The chapter opens with Bull Mask throwing Tess onto the concrete floor of the drained Rose Island swimming pool. Masked figures arrange the children in two rows of six, facing each other as if around an imaginary table. Tess calls out for Julia, and when she tries to reach her daughter, Giraffe Mask strikes her with a baseball bat across the back and shoulder, knocking her to the ground. As Tess lies on the concrete, Benjamin Knowles appears beside Wolf Mask—revealed to be Lisa Buchanon—with a hammer in each hand. He makes eye contact with Tess and swings a hammer into the side of Wolf's head.
