Summary
Maya waits by the driveway dressed for a hike, with cameras in her face and the production team hovering nearby. She replays Skye's advice from the night before—don't act interested—and finds it easy to follow. But her thoughts keep drifting back to Skye: how easy she was to talk to, how her hair looked in the moonlight, and a moment when Maya briefly thought Skye might kiss her. She's relieved she didn't lean in, though the thought has stayed with her since.
When Jordy arrives, he's wearing a designer button-down and pristine sneakers, which Maya immediately questions for a hike. Isaac makes Jordy get back in the car and reshoot his entrance, then whispers something to him. Jordy re-emerges with a more appropriate greeting, complimenting Maya's hiking outfit. Isaac then reveals the hike is a cover for a surprise. Maya hopes for puppies, but Isaac tells her no.
They drive through the hills and into Loreux's city center, arriving at a public park where a concert is underway. Grayson explains that Jordy remembered their first date, when Maya played him her favorite band. Maya hopes it's the Motherload—her favorite band—but Jordy reveals it's Two Seater, his own favorite band, which he'd made her listen to on their first date. Maya hides her disappointment for the cameras, performing excitement with a forced jump.
They watch from side-stage, where the music is loud enough that Maya doesn't have to make small talk. She makes sarcastic comments about Two Seater's depth and layering, which Jordy takes at face value. Then Jordy reveals a second surprise: Maya is brought onstage as a temporary backup dancer, draped in the Chalonian flag. She panics, tries to resist, and grabs a pole, but Gwendolyn pries her fingers loose and Jordy shoves her onstage.
Onstage, Maya dances awkwardly at first—box steps from middle school dance class, a spin—but the crowd's response grows louder. Jordy joins her, and they dance together, bouncing and jumping. Maya grudgingly smiles and admits it's fun. When the song ends, the crowd screams for her, and Maya feels a rush of victory. She reflects that as long as she keeps dancing with Jordy, the hate and scorn she usually faces disappear—even if it's fake, it feels good to be loved.

Character Development
Maya shows growing skill at performing for the cameras in this chapter. She hides her disappointment about Two Seater, gives a fake jump of excitement, and keeps her sarcasm mostly internal. The chapter also reveals her vulnerability around music: she stopped sharing her taste after Jordy dismissed the Motherload on their first date, and that moment still stings. The onstage experience forces her to confront the seduction of public approval—she admits it feels good to be loved, even though she knows it's manufactured.
Jordy is shown as performative and self-absorbed, but also genuinely enthusiastic. He remembers the first date but gets the band wrong (or the producers did). He's oblivious to Maya's true feelings, taking her sarcasm at face value. His
