Twenty-five-year-old Lila Macapagal has moved back to Shady Palms after catching her fiancé Sam cheating with multiple neighbors. She now works at her aunt Tita Rosie’s restaurant to help keep it afloat. The morning routine includes serving her three godmothers—Ninang April, Ninang Mae, and Ninang June—collectively known as the Calendar Crew. They tease Lila about her weight, dark clothes, and singleness.

The Fatal Dinner

Derek Winter, Lila’s high-school sweetheart turned food critic, arrives with his stepfather Mr. Long, the restaurant’s landlord.
